I bought a 2010 9-5 a couple weeks ago. The car just keeps getting better. I also had the same misgivings about the long term viability of Saab, but decided it was a gamble worth taking. My thoughts were along the lines of:
a) It's an awesome car. With the deals available on the 2010s, you're getting a great value - A similarly equipped German car is at least $15K more. It is a far better car than Similarly priced Volvos, Acuras, Buicks and Fords (yes, I looked at all of these).
b) Saab is fully funded for 3yrs. I'm told that this is based on very conservative sales estimates so regardless of how badly Saab sales may do you should at least get your free maintenance. Even if Saab goes down the tubes (or leaves the US market) after 3 years, you still have an awesome car. It's not like it will stop working just because the company no longer exists. If you're in an area with a decent Saab population, some independent shop will probably pick up the maintenance business.
c) The car has a lot of GM DNA. Worst case, you take it to a Buick dealer and maybe they don't notice it's not a LaCrosse (bad joke). Seriously, it would seem that, for the right price, a GM dealer could be motivated to fix/maintain it.
d) If Saab dies, yes, resale will suffer big time... so you'll keep the car longer (assuming you can get maintenance...) which isn't a problem because it's an awesome car. At >100K miles, how much resale do you expect anyway? However, I've also always thought that buying/not buying a car because of resale value is kind of backwards. You *know* it's a nice car, you don't know what the resale will be. That's life.
e) It's only money, you can always make more.
Finally, if you can't get over it, lease the car. It is pretty certain that Saab will be here at least 3 years. If Saab is gone when the lease is over, it's not your problem.
