you basically need to cut the rubber with a sharp blade until you cut the inner portion out. then use a hacksaw to cut the retaining rings out if you're doing it "old school". I just did it and it took about an hour or so.
I tried using a press to no avail. That rubber is a bear. You have to be brutal with this if you're doing it in the garage w no specialty tools. The WIS has a nice write up, but without the Saab tool, you are in for a tough job.
