New fuel pump, three issues Posted by Jonathan Scupin [Email] (#428) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jonathan Scupin) on Sun, 15 May 2011 19:36:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2004 Aero Wagon, ~77K miles.
The car has had the "wacky" gas gauge problem for a while, along with cutting out when fuel was < 1/4 tank and trying to accelerate. Baffle had been removed by a dealer who installed a new fuel pump in 2007 (supposedly...)
I purchase the Walbro pump assembly from Eeuroparts and installed it Saturday.
1) The wiring harness was longer than the original pump, and had the wrong connector. I swapped in the original connector.
2) The pump felt like it bottomed out slightly in the tank. I had to press down on the top while screwing in the big sealing ring.
3) I filled up the tank this a.m. and the gauge read only 3/4 full. I drove 200 miles, and the gauge does seem to be dropping normally now (to 1/2). No bouncing gauge, no performance issues (30 mpg for a 200 mile roundtrip, cruising at ~80, no complaints there!)
Did I somehow get the wrong fuel pump? Your thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jonathan
