Put the selector in either the N or D position. There is a #10 torx screw that then can be accessed in the gap that is then exposed between the selector knob and the lock out release tab at the rear of the lever. (You might want to use a mirror and a light to view the screw before attempting to remove it.)
Once the screw is removed, you can pull apart the two halves of the selector lever. On my car, the halves were stuck together because of the leather, but they could be parted by hand. If you want to prise them apart, I recommend a sturdy plastic pry tool to prevent maring the leather or plastic, if you have the plastic wood shifter version in your ARC.
The back half will come off and leave the lock out release tab in place. To remove it, you need to use small needle nose pliers to pull out a small c-clip that attaches the tab to the metal lock out rod linkage. Once the c-clip is removed, the plastic release tab just slides off the rod - no springs to worry about.
To remove the front of the selector lever, you need to first push out the "S" (Sport) switch from the bottom. On some cars, the wires to this switch are soldered, on others, they are attached by slide-on connectors. If you have to desolder the switch, you should wrap the lever and console area with towels to prevent hot solder marring the finish. Once the switch is removed, the front section of the selector lever housing can be slid off of the metal shift channel.
Putting it all back together takes a little patience to route the wires properly, make sure the c-clip is replaced properly and to ensure that the two halves are completely mated before retightening the #10 torx screw.
