New fuel pump assembly then P1300 w/brand new DICs

Freaking out a bit here. I have a 1999 V-6 with 197k. Been babied to death. I just replace both DICs (didn't really need to, but they were the original ones) and new standard plugs (within the last 300 miles and CPS within 1000 miles) and recently cleaned the TB.
My original fuel pump just failed on a 240 mile trip to the beach. So I replaced the whole assembly with a Professional Parts Sweden brand (made in China-was this a mistake?). I was able to tighten the fuel pump lock ring pretty tight, but not to spec due to lack of tools while on vacation.
On the trip home, I pressed the gas pedal to the floor then the CEL came on. I was on limp home mode for the last 50 miles home.
I checked all the connections at the new pump and made sure it was priming up. Now it won't start.
I hooked up the ODBII and got a P1300. I just can't believe the DICs would have gone on me as they are brand new! I still have to look at the plugs, but needless to say, I am beside myself.
Could the loose fuel pump lock ring could have caused this? Please help!
