...that this is the right way to do things. By raising the entire strut assembly, you're not regaining the shock travel that's lost from the suspension being lower than standard. The car will look better, front end geometry will be as new when unloaded, but the suspension travel will be the same as before adding the shims.
When I raised my front suspension I found a lot of evidence of the suspension bottoming out, so I think this is an important consideration. I did it by adding a spacer on the top of the spring. I haven't had a chance to go back in there and measure the spacer I made, but the ID/OD are similar to the spring - maybe 4.5 x 5.5" One could get the exact id/od/profile by ordering a $12.00 spring support from Saab and using that as a template - same dimensions only as much thicker as you want your suspension raised. No That's pretty much what I did and it as worked very well for over a year now.
