Just did this last week. Pop the rubberized trim ring out - you can do this with your fingers. Then use a small flathead screwdriver to compress the four tabs holding down the black hard plastic frame around the shift lever. Just be careful as you compress tabs and simultaneously lift the frame so as to not break a tab or two.
Then, the easy part. Instead of disassembling the shift lever and the console, I snipped the jalousie with scissors where it narrows around the shifter cut out. Then just wrap it around the shifter and wiggle it into place on either end. It helps to move the shifter from Park to Low. Just make sure the little tab on the jalousie picks up the slot on the PRNDL strip so it moves back and forth when you shift.
Took me 10 minutes total, works like a charm and you literally cannot see the incision.
