2005 9-5 Spark/Ignition problem

Hey everybody, posted in here in the past and your input has been priceless. Hoping that I can get some help on my most recent issues.
Took my 9-5 to a Firestone because of recent service specials that I thought I'd take advantage of. Mistake number one, lesson learned, will never go back to those yahoos again. Anyways, my check engine light had been off and on for a while now, without any symptoms. They plugged it into the machine and said it was "spark plug" problems. Replaced the spark plugs, took the car out, and it came back. Then, they told me "oh we were hoping it wouldn't be this, but you may have to change the cassette." They said it was spark/ignition error codes again. From my readings here, it seems like the DIC that may be the culprit.
Before I bite the bullet and have this rather pricey repair done, I wanted to get your input. Is there any more cost-effective way of fixing this than buying a brand new coil? Could they have just screwed up the spark plug replacement? It doesn't sound too hard, but who knows. On a side note, I left the Firestone and my low coolant signal kept coming on, eventually had to replace the heater valve at another rip-off price elsewhere (that's another story entirely)... probably not their fault, but who knows? The idiot looked me straight in the face and said your coolant level is fine, it's probably just the sensor about a day or two before my A/C cut out entirely, I got the red exclamation triangle of death on the dash, and had to fill up with water because there was pretty much no coolant left (I think he forgot to look and just lied).
Any help is appreciated, this recent slew of expenses has left a pretty big dent on my wallet- unfortunately I'm not at all skilled in these matters. I can fix a person if you come to the hospital in need of care, but I can't fix a car!
