2008 9-5 headlight replacement

On my 1999 9-5 replacing the H7 headlight bulbs could be done in a few minutes by just opening the hood and unscrewing the covers.
For my 2008 9-5 I can barely squeeze my hand in to remove the covers, but it looks like I have to remove the battery on one side and a big hose on the other side! This is a terrible design.
Has anyone changed bulbs on a 2008 without removing other stuff from the engine compartment?
Or does anyone have any suggestions on an easy way to do this?
