Although the Viggen is more "unrefined" than the Aero, I chose it over the Aero, and I drove them back to back. The Viggen feels more in tune with the road, faster turning, and is more fun to drive. It's also lighter and has less "fancy" stuff that's unnecessary if you're single (when you're single, you don't need dual climate control). The Aero is also more expensive, and you don't get to go to the Viggen Flight Academy. Additionally, try hauling a washer, dryer, freezer, pressure sprayer (each of which I've hauled in the Viggen with the hatch closed) in an Aero. The seats were much nicer in the Viggen, too, although Saab has improved the seats in the Aero.
If you don't need the hauling capacity of the Viggen, then the Aero is a viable choice. It's also even more refined from when I drove it.
Having seen what the 9-3 is going to be like, however, I might choose it over both cars if a hatchback isn't needed. See the post on the General BB for a link to the Saab site that discusses the 9-3. It's way cooler than the 9-5, but they will only have a 205hp engine at the beginning.
