Use any full synthetic that meets ACEA A3/B3-08 if you really want the best protection against sludge. (Mobil 1, AmsOil AEL, Castrol RS, Motul, etc) You can also look for an oil that meets VW 505.00/507.00 or BMW LL-04 Conventional oils DO NOT meet these specifications. As for me, I use AmsOil AEL with a full change every 6,000 miles and a new filter + 0.5 quart every 3,000 miles. The frequent filter change affords me the opportunity to check out the underside of the car fairly frequently. Also use a quality oil filter (e.g. Saab OEM, Mann, Wix) they're fairly cheap.
