replace the thermostat and the temp sensor Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 17:39:13 In Reply to: Re: temp guage pegged on cold - OK to drive?, NJ-PA Don [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 31 Oct 2011 14:26:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Easy to do both at the same time.
The gauge does not really read temperature directly. The computer drive the gauge.
it is my under standing if the oil temp and the water temp are not within a certain range after 10 minutes or so of warming up you will get a full cold temp gauge reading. This does not mean the water is really cold, just means that maybe the thermostat is stuck open and causing the water temp to be cooler than normal and not in range with the engine oil temp. So the computer tells the gauge to show full cold.
I have had this happen on my wife's 2003 aero and the thermostat and temp sender cured it.
