Worst case would be a seized turbo. The turbo isn't needed to start & idle, but you'd likely notice (as you are) a loss of performance.
Best case would be a torn rubber boot, or hose that came off someplace under the hood. They would allow the motor to work fine until the pressure in the inlet was higher than outside, then it would bleed off all the pressure (and performance). Had this happen on a Classic 900. One of the rubber grommets that held a hose into the inlet manifold went bad. Visually, it looked fine, but as soon as the boost came up, it would pop out and I'd lose all boost pressure. So, if you're inspecting these things under the hood, you'll have to give a little tug on them all to make sure they're in there tight.
