About a month ago, my gas gauge started bouncing around from empty to full and stopping anywhere in between but only after filling the tank all the way; it would go away within 50-60 miles (i.e. once the gauge would normally start going down). Other than that, car runs fine, turbo pulls strong, etc. After re-assuring myself from reading Saabnet that it's just one of those things that 9-5's do occasionally, I then drove approximately 10.5 hours straight, each way, over Thanksgiving. At least twice during this trip I ran down to near-empty with approximately 450-475 miles on the tripometer.
A couple weeks ago, while cruising on the highway going home from work the car stumbled (maybe a misfire) and I was in the red on the gas gauge, which I normally don't do. Today, I knew my tank was low, about 460 miles, but the DTE on SID said I had enough to get home, but the car stumbled twice. After the first time the DTE suddenly went from 60 miles to 10 miles. I continued about a mile and it stumbled again, the CEL started flashing (no SID messages) and I pulled over, stopped the engine but couldn't start again. I'm a mile from my exit at this time, so Dad was able to deliver me a couple gallons, car started up, and he followed me to the gas station where I put in a full tank and drove home w/o a problem.
At this point, I have codes 1312 and 1334, did not trip my throttle body, and do not have any CEL or other warning lights. I have been running 89 octane for the last 3 years and for the past month only 91 (I think that's the premium around here). I have lately been getting 29-30 mpg with about 90% highway miles (SID shows 31).
Technically I shut the engine off, but I'm pretty sure I "ran out of gas" despite what the SID said. Are the misfire codes a result of that, or am I also in need of an IDC? I was planning on getting a spare soon anyways- what's the going rate for a T7 IDC, ~$400? Am I safe to drive to work for a few days, ~120 miles round trip? Are the 3.7 and 3.6 IDC interchangeable w/o any software issues (not sure what's currently in mine). Do the real Saab units have some sort of hologram sticker? Should I be concerned about my fuel pump?
If my AMM was going, would that affect my IDC? I've think I've also read that a bad AMM can also cause a cat failure; if that was the case, would I still be getting the mileage I'm getting?
2000 LPT 5sp, which supposedly doesn't have the fuel tank baffles installed
154K miles
IDC was replaced by previous owner under warranty, so this one has at least 75K miles on it
Rebuilt throttle body
No issues with CPS while I've owned it
I believe the car is on it's second fuel pump
Much thanks
