that a scrapyard engine is better than this one? V6 9-5s that show up in scrapyards that don't have significant body damage are likely there because of the motor. Most likely, they didn't change the timing belt at the mandated 60k intervals, it snapped, and carnage ensued.
I'm with Brett, the FIRST thing to check is the oil cooler. It lives deep in the vee of the motor, under the inlet manifolds. If that's not the problem, then you're most of the way disassembled to do the head gaskets.
But have the compression checked first. If it's good in all 6 cylinders, then it's all but certainly the oil cooler!
