Metal Valve Stem Caps and TPMS Be Careful Posted by jeff02 [Email] (#2992) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jeff02) on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 06:22:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Maybe others know this, but I did not so here goes. I have put ORANGE TPMS in 2 9-5's and they are working great. I came to take the cap off of one and it was stuck on good. Tried a little harder and twisted the valve stem in two pretty easily, tire flat, can't put in a new valve core, too short, etc...
Turns out that the cap that I used was a metal cap that I had picked up years back before the TPMS (not cheap) that had fused itself to the stem. These caps work fine on regular stems, but not on TPMS stems. ORANGE is shipping me replacement stems no charge (very nice), and their caps are metal, but with stainless steel insides. I don't use them because of aesthetics, but looks like I will be using good old plastic caps from now on. .....
If you go to the WIKI on the Valve Cores there is a statement that say not to use metal caps with TMPS.
Any thoughts?
