That's the way I am leaning too Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 13 Feb 2012 17:10:33 In Reply to: Install it, Mike Johnson, Mon, 13 Feb 2012 16:41:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I will get benefit during the next two or three weeks of driving by installing the switch. Based on Anders' description of the failed switches he has seen, my switch is not a candidate for the inexpensive disassembly, cleaning, and regreasing advocated by others.
Apparently it is possible to insert a jumper in the wiring harness connector, some even use a straightened out jumbo paper clip, to by-pass the switch. But a failed switch can also cause issues with improper dashboard gear selector read-outs, back-up lights illuminated while not in Reverse, as well as other annoying and un-safe issues.
If this was a $100 part it would be a No Brainer. The $300 cost made me think a little harder.
But the good news is that CarQuest can get these switches even though they are not available frorm Saab parts!
