I ordered Akebono pads from a random website and I'm really not abundantly happy with them. They don't stop the car the way it should. I mean, if I STOMP on it I STOP. But I feel like I have to push way too hard on the pedal in every day driving situations. My mechanic told me to only buy Saab pads. Akebono is an OEM manufacturer for Saab but apparently there are different compounds and friction coefficients as MI-Roger suggests might be the case. For the infrequency I have to buy pads, I'm going to spend the extra money next time.
