I put over 300K miles on my 2000 lpt 9-5 so these cars can run for a long time, but their bug-a-boo is engine sludging caused by: Questionable PCV design; use of non-synthetic motor oil; and excessively long oil change intervals.
The first item was resolved through a long list of revisions to the PCV system, the last of which occurred with the 2004 model year introduction.
Using synthetic oil only and changing it every 5,000 miles solved the two other items.
With the oil sensitivity experienced by these engines a missing oil dip stick (you do know it is the large yellow circular cap behind the engine?) is a sure mark of a neglected/abused car.
