My "post recall" DIC/IDM experience Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 9 Mar 2012 04:32:41 In Reply to: Ignition cassette, ajm, Thu, 8 Mar 2012 16:24:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I received a new DIC/IDM as result of the recall at around 180K miles (I had replaced the factory original at 90K as a precautionary measure). Last summer at around 310K miles the "post recall" unit started to throw CEL codes.
The new ones tend to indicate their approaching failure by illuminating the CEL. I had no drivability issues, and the CEL would light only upon a hot restart, so I had the necessary time to locate a good deal, order it, and wait for delivery.
So my experience indicates a life expectancy of 120K-130K miles. This implies that the new ones don't last significantly longer, but die in a much more predictable and user friendly way. Others may have different results.
