Hello,
Found the break - right at the pin holes for the locking washer close to the rear wheel. The control arm did not look too rusty. Perhaps the control arm was cracked during tightening at the shop. I just purchased another used one and will install when it arrives. I will get the car aligned once I get it installed - perhaps wheel is out of alignment - thoug rear tire does not appear to indicate this. Strange that two parts would break in such a short period of time. Rust does not appear to be the problem as both the car and the part are not rusty.
