Yes, this is also known as "top end noise". I have a 99 I4 that takes just a bit to get the oil flowing and you can hear the top end noise until the oil gets up there. Probably my oil pump is going and / or oil pan issues. I have not pulled the pan on this car yet, but will probably do so soon.
I have not heard of a switch that is not working properly. Usually if the oil light is on the car should not be driven at all until this is fixed. If you are not geting proper oil flow you will kill the engine in no time.
