You plan to keep the car another 2 to 3 years and everything else is in great condition. Sure this part failure sucks, but fixing it will ultimately be much cheaper than dumping a car with an expensive problem and buying replacement transportation.
I had a similar dilemma last month with a failed $300 NSS on a car I was planning to keep for only 2 or 3 weeks. I replaced it and sold the car for $2K. I am convinced that not fixing the problem would have dropped the sales price to under $1500.
