Failed ignition casette

2006 9-5 manual with 59,000 miles starts with intermittent single misses and evolves into a steady miss for a few minutes at a time with a flashing CEL on yesterday's 20 min commute. Ok, I have a new spare Genuine SAAB black casette that I got for my 99 Viggen back in 2004 in the 9-5s trunk. Get home with some missing and stumbling on the way. Replace casette in 5 minutes, no problems on the drive in today.
Seems I recall a replacement black casette was around $300 on eeuro last I looked, now I see it is up to $500! Before I commit to the fine folks at eEuro, is there a cheaper alternative for a backup casette?
Parts train has a Standard brand black casette for $312, Parts Geek and Rock Auto has the same brand for even less, $250,are these one of the feared Chinese casettes? Any experience with these brands?
Also, while my missing issue was clearly the failing ignition casette, it did not have a burnt epoxy smell noted on prior posts, so can the casette be DIY repaired? If I am just going to toss it, the repair experience may be worth the time.
Thanks to all in advance.
