A year or two or planning to "drive it until the wheels fall off?"
Rolling in a chain is fine as a more temporary fix, but the valleys between the gear teeth will eventually stretch the new chain to the length of the old one. If you're going to have it for quite awhile, I suggest doing the whole job right.
