I'm with Norm here... $7000 is insane. I bought my 04 arc for less than that. Then I upgraded all the shocks etc to konis etc, and that included in the price is still within the cost of your PO's suspension upgrade!
There certainly are some common things that need to be watched on the 9-5. The same can be said for any brand. In-laws have a recent Honda Civic that (in spite of having a rust preventing "module" installed) was in for warranty rust repair within 2 years. Other things broke also, a bad battery in that time, $1000 on exhaust work at 3-4 years, etc... and yet it is viewed as highly reliable! I don't disagree: it is a good car. Cars simply cost money to own...
All this said, there's a reason I own 3 Saabs... we only really need the 9-5. But those c900s are so much fun, and well built (albeit with their own significant weak points! we don't worry much about 9-5 trannies here, but look over on the c900 bb!), it is hard to part with them... they just keep going + going... on a % basis, how many 20 year old hondas are on the road today (I'm in the salt belt)? There is something special about these cars, even the newer ones (despite the GM decontenting)...
