I had the same concern with a trunk mount bike rack resting on glass. I used one on my 9000 with up to 3 bikes at a time. the top pad rested directly on the glass.
Once it's loaded with bikes, most of the weight rests on the lower pad closer to the top of the bumper.
The weight of the bikes on the holding arms shifts the weight on the lower pad and lessens the load on the pad resting on the window.
If you look at the photo below, you can imagine that with bikes on the arms, the weight would shift away from the window.
Just make sure to secure swinging handlebars and pedals to prevent scratching the paint.
