I think Dean is right.
Here is what I have always suspected. When the evil Saab shop came up with the now discredited "bad wheel bearing" guess, they must have at one point removed the wheel in the offending corner for a look and then simply remounted it correctly. It's been more than 1250 miles and no matter what is actually going on, that problem (which sounds so much like yours) has simply never recurred.
It's worth a look.
