Miles are stored in the Odometer unit, which is a sub-unit of the MIU You may be able to move yours from one MIU to the other, I'm not sure. I do believe that the MIU needs to be programmed to the car. Most ECUs do.
From what I recall, the ODO can only be programmed UP in miles, it can not go backwards, and it is nothing like telling it you have 123,456 miles on the car. You have to go up in increments, and none of the increments is very large, so it will take time. I also don't know if it's possible to go past the "mechanical" limit of 999,999 miles/km and back to 000,000 to start over. Even if you could, it would take a very long time. This is all to prevent people from turning the clock back on their car.
Even if you can't keep the original miles, the best thing would be a dated photo of the original ODO just before you swap them, and a photo on the same date of the new one, and keep those records with the car in case you need to sell it. Dealers usually have some official-looking stickers that they would use in such a case, mentioning the change in indicated miles.
If there are any maintenance-critical and mileage-specific items that apply to this car, like the timing belt on the V6, Make a note of the new mileage at which it would be due. Both so you don't miss it, and you don't do it early.
In all honesty, unless the car has extremely low miles for its age, or is very young, a few tens of thousands isn't going to make a huge difference in selling price. But having the records of when the ODO was swapped, and photos to back it up would be even better.
