I've ranted on this before when my son was learning to drive our 1999 9-5 4 cylinder with 5 spd. This morning I get a great deal on a front windshield replacement ($50 with insurance deductible minus shop coupon), but shop guy doesn't seem to drive a stick too well and has problems backing the car up an incline. Herky jerky like my son's first attempts. So after the windshield is replaced, I go to start up and get a charging system error on the dash and then I know exactly what's wrong when there is no power steering assist. Having gone through this before, I get the car to a nearby friend's house without overheating. Belt has again slipped off the POS designed water pump pulley. Had to get to the office, so I know what I get to do after work tonight!!
When I get to the turbo rebuild I've been putting off, maybe I'll see if I can mod the water pump pulley with an attached metal plate ring to add a shoulder flange and keep the belt from freely slipping off. Crappy OEM pulley design, I'm convinced.
P.S - I'll post comments on the replacement windshield in a separate entry.
