Anders,
I'd have to look at the tensioner more closely to answer your questions about bump stop and mounting of the tensioner. I do not have the short belt option. I successfully reseated the belt last night in 20 minutes without needing to remove the pulley side engine support yoke for better working room. Removing the plastic shield in the wheel well was adequate enough as the belt didn't get mangled, but slipped off the water pump pulley and became slack enough to no longer be in contact with the crank pulley. Once back on, I idled the car for 1/2 hour to recharge the battery and the belt reseated as usual about 3/16" inwards of the water pump pulley outward face. As I mentioned previously, ever since I replaced the water pump, a new belt mounted would first move towards the engine block and shave off about 1/2 of a rib and then be fine. No further destructive migration into the face of the timing chain cover as I've heard mention of in other postings.
