You can test the compressor that way. 12VDC is provided when the compressor relay in the main fuse box gets ground from the ECU. The ACC computer tells the ECU if the pressure switch on the condensor [behind the passenger headlight] is in the right range, and if the temp is not too high. Consult the WIS for more information. I had the pressure switch disconnnected and the compressor would not work.
You can hear it kick in. You can see if the center section is spinning.....use a light and look carefully.
