At 44 mpg and 19 gallons as some have filled to it'd take me all daylight hours driving non-stop, or around 800 miles. I haven't had the chance to do more than 100 miles unlaiden or 50 miles highway on my daily commute one way. I have towed another 9-5 with 450 lbs car dolly through hills of MA and TN and got 23.5 mpg.
Tire pressures are in the low 40's, a good alignment within spec with similar weight as mine in the driver's seat, and smooth throttle inputs at around 60 mph average on the SID. The SID is slightly optimistic by about a tenth or two when filling up and doing the math. The AC eats about 2.5 mpg, warmer ambient temperatures help fuel economy. Premium fuel(92-93) and I do look to stay away from E10 I have seen poorer economy in other cars I haven't run it enough in the 9-5. The lower octane in a stock LPT has only little effect. All cars have 100,000+ miles, fresh fluids, plugs, and filters. Tires are stock 215/55-16 a couple of years old.
The milemarkers are less then 50 feet early. This might explain why speedo/odo slightly optimistic. On blog The Truth About Cars a journalist, who is also HPDE instructor, has seen 32 mpg in a 2012 Impala doing 70+ plus. So the driver plays a big role.
