it's too bad you couldn't get an Anders response, but that doesn't mean what others are telling you is wrong or useless.
I'm sure that if he saw something here he disagreed with, or could expand upon, he'd post. He certainly has helped a lot of people here.
Instead of "wasting" subject line space, asking for advice, specifically from Anders, you could have gone with: "Is CPS necessary for energizing fuel pump?"
Succinct, accurate and technical enough to probably get Anders' attention.
I won't profess to approach his SAAB (or even auto in general) knowledge, but like david and JerryC, it's my understanding that ALL fuel-injected engines will energize the fuel pump when the key is turned ON.
