CPS is Crankshaft Position Sensor Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 28 Jul 2012 10:19:28 In Reply to: What is CPS?, Bill Wiggins, Sat, 28 Jul 2012 09:13:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Their most common failure mode seems to be that of causing hot engine starting problems. If your car refuses to start when the engine is hot, but starts fine when the engine is cold, it is likely an aged and failing CPS.
The CPS resides on the radiator face of the engine, in-line with the crankshaft centerline at the flex-plate area, behind a small metal heat shield, and sort of hidden by the down pipe. Its single mounting screw also securres the heat shield. The electrical cable insert into a connector next to the throttle body.
The photo is from eEuro. Their price for the OEM Bosch part is ~$72.
