Here's what the WIS says about P1231:
Brief disturbances in throttle valve control that cause the engine to jerk. The phenomenon is due to faults in one of the pots in the throttle body. (The WIS makes it sound like this is more of an issue at constant throttle during cruise.)
Our car does not exhibit that symptom, it's only at idle.
I might as well spring for a CReader VI. They've gotten pretty good reviews and will do a whole lot more than a cheapie $35 code reader.
