I have heard of issues with relays causing symptoms like this. As our cars age, so to do electrical connections. An intermittent Fuel Pump or Main Relay could be something to look at. According to the WIS if the "main" relay were to malfunction it could stop power to the control module, which reacts by stopping the engine and closing the throttle. The WIS says if this happens then code P1640 is generated.
If the problem duration is brief enough there may be no code but the engine may shut off none the less.
Relays are cheap (usually <$20) and easy to replace. They're in a holder under the dash near the steering wheel.
