We had this same thing happen in our '04 99-5 wagon, maybe three summers back. We were on our way back from the East coast, and had just crossed the US35 bridge at Point Pleasant from WV into OH. Car died while running through the gears away from the light. Pulled over to the side, car was (apparently) dead with the key in the ON position. Turned the key to OFF and restarted. Car has been fine since (and never did anything similar previously. We discussed the event, and concluded the same thing as as the previous post. Although we both thought the key was ON, neither of us would swear that the key hadn't been reflexively manipulated in the seconds after the car died. Applying the simplest explanation, we concluded that the key had indeed been switched off.
