Believe or not but 1q to 1.5q per 1000 miles is still the accepted industry standard.
In the 80s and 90s this was even more unacceptable than with 2000 and up cars but still, that's the measuring stick all car brands are going by. Now, most of the oil is passed by the soft piston rings and sent out in the tail pipe.
It's not much to do but make sure the PCV check valve is intact and use good quality oil.
If your car would actually leak the oil out on the ground, it would leave a terrible mess everywhere you park so I'm pretty sure you don't have an external leak.
