TPMS and today's adventures..... I finalized the deal on the used snows I have been courting, four 16-inch Saab alloys shod with slightly used Gislaveds for $300. I ordered a set of four TPMS sensors for these wheels that set me back another ~$240. Ok, still a good deal.
I leave work in a torrential downpour, drive 200 feet and the Low Tire Pressure alarm sounds. I pull over, exit the car to get soaked once again, and learn my left rear tire has only 32 psig of air rather than the desired 35 psig. I say "Screw it! With 32 psig and this rain I will drive the 52 miles home."
50 miles later the lights go out by themselves.
I do disagree with your position on Nitrogen as a tire fill medium. Because it is a dry gas it will eliminate rim leaks which are caused by oxidation of the bead seat on Aluminum wheels by the moisture in normal compressed air. This reason alone may make it worth a little more when filling tires, but the other mystical attributes assigned to it by Tire Stores, i.e. no pressure loss caused by air molecules migrating through the tire rubber, are bunk. Remember - the free wet air is already 78% Nitrogen.
