Keep in mind that the OG9-3 have always had short belt from factory and it is a very popular retrofit to get rid of the long belt on the NG900 and convert it to short belt and none of those cars have a real problem with vibrations, so what gives?
It is many design changes between the 9-3 and 9-5 but one thing that stands out the most to me is the power steering system and where it seems the vibrations are generated the most on the 9-5, especially when we early on were converting the 99-2000 9-5 to short belt.
The 9-5 use an all aluminum power steering pump where the 900 and 9-3 use a cast iron housing. I don't know if it is some things inside there that makes up the difference or if it is that the steering rack on the 9-5 is bolted to subframe which is suspended to the car body with 6 flimsy rubber bushings whereas the 900 and 9-3 had the steering rack bolted to the fire wall and the subframe is bolted solid to car body.
Who knows, but sure thing is that the 9-5 have more inherent vibrations like when sitting at a stop sign with car in Drive.
