Good SID not working

OK, I've been doing lots of work on a 2002 9-5 in the center console area. Had the SID remanufactured and it worked great. I may have crossed some wires at some point like the sport button wires or the winter button, but those both work fine. If you look very closely at the SID, you can tell it is operating. When you start the car, it shows 12:00 and Jan 1 very faintly, and it makes the proper chimes and turn signal sounds. Move it to my other 2002 9-5 and it works perfectly, so it isn't the SID, it has to be something with the car, but what?
All of the fuses seem to be good, night panel button does what it should for the other gauges, and the brightness dial left of steering wheel is not the answer. I replaced both cig lighter guide light assemblies and they don't appear to be working either, although the cig lighter functions when you plug a device into them, the green light (brand new OEM) doesn't come on.
Any ideas? Do I need to start testing each pin in the SID connector with a volt meter, and if so, where should I start? Thanks! -JerryC
