No start issues have been around. You wrote that it cranks. Maybe your starter is bad. The auto parts stores test them for free. You just need to take it out.
In my situation on the Manual 2004 9-5 Aero I could turn everything on with the key except start the car ( no crank, nothing ) but the radio, lights, ACC all worked. Sometimes it started on the second twist of the key, sometimes on the 17th, sometimes on the first try for two-days straight. This was becoming worse over a years time ( more twists of the key needed to start).
I narrowed it down to the Contact switch located under the ignition tumbler lock. To replace it I followed the same instructions as Genuine Saab gives to install the short shifter.
It's been a week since I did the replacement and all seems good. Starts up every time, knock on wood. The part is around 130 buckarooos. I'll put up the part number in a couple minutes.
Cheers!
