Thanks MI-Roger, just trying to cover my bases a bit. I have read many of your posts, the fact that you made it over 300K on the original alternator give me hope!
Thought about bypassing the bypass valve but not keen on losing any AC performance. The aftermarket bypass valve is only $16 via eEuro and it sounds like it's no worse than the Saab one, so I might throw one of those in preventatively and keep the original as a spare (unless it's already leaking).
My local NAPA stocks CHF11S so that's what I went with - the fluid was filthy and the steering was stiff; a couple changes later and it's improved significantly.
It's great to hear that sudden failure has been eliminated - I still have a red DIC in the trunk "just in case" (I know these are not recommended but I figure it would get me home in an emergency).
Thanks for tips on upper radiator hose and CPS, added to my list.
