I have a 2004 saab arc wagon,110,000km, and wanted to do preventive maintenance, overkill but don't want to be stranded for things that often fail at these mileages even though they can go much longer without problems.
Belt
Top rad hose
Thermostat
Thermostat temp sensor
Crank position sensor
Alternator
Water pump(make sure saab oem, some aftermarket items have high failure rates)
Coolant bypass (make sure gm branded)
Throttle body
Ignition cassette
Plugs
Air filter
All fluids changed, brakes bled
Struts for the wagon door
Xenon lamps
Talifierro urethane trans mount
New koni fsd,s springs and drop link bushings
New tires, michelin pilot a/s
Overkill no doubt, but my objective is another 5 years of reliable use and i did some of the work myself to keep costs reasonable. The alternator was probably good for a long time, but every car i have owned had an alternator fail at or before 100,000kms so not interested in tempting fates. Consider rear shocks and springs if nothing else in the suspension, one of my rear shocks was failing but not noticable in the ride yet and they are a weak point, the koni upgrade all around was worth while regardless. I discussed all this with a good independent the only thing i left alone was the fuel pump, might proactively replace in a couple of years.
I also ordered the blend door repair kits and some green window rollers to have spares for when needed for these items inevitably fail. Might proactively do the blend doors when i feel up to it.
Also ordered some talifierro braided brake lines for when i do the brakes in the next year or so.
With all this and some cleaning detailing and wax, its really like a new car in drive and appearance. No regrets in keeping this car in tip top shape, its becoming quite distinctive and while looking around for a new car nothing matches the blend of function and performance, ergonomics, visibility, etc. Even against the euro lux brands!
