The issues with SmartPost have not fallen on deaf ears.

We've been working hard with FedEx since August to bring back Fast & Free 1 - 3 Day shipping for all of our customers, starting at the same low order value of $50. A few weeks ago they were able to deliver us a plan that will allow us to go back to the web's absolute fastest shipping method for retail customers starting at some point in November.

As a part of this process we looked very closely at all three major carriers. We determined that the service that FedEx offers, which is FREE Saturday Delivery on their Home Delivery service was too important to our customers to change to another carrier. Home Delivery allows customers from Maine to Virgina and to points in Ohio to order from us by 6 PM on a Friday afternoon and have their parts on Saturday. In our world where we drive our cars Monday thru Friday and fix our cars on Saturday and Sunday we felt that was critical.

Hopefully in combination with FedEx we'll be able to continue to provide Fast & Free 1 - 3 Day into and through 2013. This will depend on it's sustainability after FedEx releases their price increases in January.
