Engine sludging Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 11 Nov 2012 17:11:23 In Reply to: 2001 9-5 four door 2.3 turbo question., K-Saab [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 11 Nov 2012 16:50:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I owned a 2000 model for 12 years and over 300K miles so the problem can be avoided simply by performing regular oil changes, i.e. 5K mile intervals, with synthetic oil only. Unfortunately, too many owners turned a blind eye to any automotive maintenance. The inevitable consequence of this is an engine filled with oil sludge that then self destructs.
If you can get the sump pulled to check for sludge, and it checks clean, then the car may be worth the money or may even be a great deal.
