Snows tires on car and brakes flushed Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 16 Nov 2012 11:11:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Solid rear rotors on an Aero?
This is the first time I have removed the tires from my '08 Aero since purchasing it this Spring. I have had local shops do the periodic tire rotations. I was surprised to see both front rotor locking screws appear to be new with "Made in USA" stamped into their heads. These removed easily to be coated with anti-seize and reinstalled.
The rear rotor locking screws were rusted into the rotors! Even PB Blast wouldn't allow their removal with hand tools. I bought a Milwaukee electric impact wrench over the Summer which I was using on the lug nuts (finish tightened with a torque wrench) so I used a string of reducing adapters and small socket to hold the Torx bit to attack these screws. Setting the wrench on its lowest setting, then increasing speed/power by one notch at a time, broke these loose without damage. A coat of anti-seize and then finger tightened so I should never have this problem again.
I was surprised to see solid rear rotors on this car. I thought all Aeros received ventilated rear rotors. I assume retrofitting with ventilated rotors sometime in the future will require new calipers too, correct?
My snows are mounted on early 9-5 16-inch three spoke alloy wheels. Three spoke wheels just look so right on these cars. I like these better than the 17-inch anniversary edition 5-five spoke alloy rims which carry my summer tires.
