Here's the list for my '03 Aero sedan w/ 119K miles: (we're going to 200k baby!)
1) Alternator replacement. This job is the Rubik's cube of SAAB repair. I took it out the top without having to loosen the rear engine mount bolt. It's tight and the alt. has to be turned in several directions, but it does come out eventually. Mine was original, so I think 10 years is a decent run for an alt. Replaced it with remanned Bosch unit. Lots of good DIY write-ups to be found on the board. Patience seems to be key for this job.
2) Crank sensor replacement. This was another original part, & since I already had a new Bosch CPS on the shelf, why not replace it? I went at this from the top & it helps to have an assortment of swivel rachets, etc. Give the screw a shot of PB Blaster & comes out much easier. Also, have long fingers.
3) Tensioner, idler pullies, new serp belt. If you can turn a wrench, you can do this one, but it's crazy tight in there.
Finally, I installed 2 fresh Xenon bulbs, a Mobil 1 oil/filter change, air filter, new NGK spark plugs and a nice wash & vac. Oh yeah, and 2 new green window rollers for the front passenger door. I've mastered that repair now in about 10 minutes! Love a window that goes up & down!
This car is still such a blast to drive; I love how it handles & how it "launches" down the highway in Sport Mode. It will certainly plant your butt in the backseat!
I want to thank all you guys here on SAABNET. I can't imagine owning a SAAB without all the help from this site. There's so much info to assist in keeping these great cars on the road!
So, wave when you see me, I'll be the one driving the SAAB!
