Heater is keeping the garage toasty, sooooo....
went after the leaky oil pressure sender. Thanks to this forum- I thought it was a rear main seal.
I didn't have a 24 mm crows foot for tightening it back on, so I picked up a 24 mm long socket and dremeled out a groove for the wire.
I did this from below, so I removed the starter to access it.
I also took off the front of the exhaust- from the turbo to the flex pipe- as I wanted to revisit the oil pan. Glad i did. I pile of crud in the bottom of the pan. Did this about50 k ago. Also found a small piece of plastic. I am guessing this is part of a timing chain guide. The chain side of the engine has been noisy for about a year, I would like to do the balance and timing soon.
I pulled the valve cover- the cam area looked ok- tarnish, but not really any gunk. HOWEVER- the timing chain part of the cover was full of the black grit. Will see what I can clean out of the timing chain area. Took some photos, but don't know how to post them here. Good productive evening!
